Throughout the month of March, Evolve Gallery at the 100th Monkey Studio is proud to host the exhibit the Art of Healing as well as announce it's partnership with non-profit Street Yoga. The opening event is from 6-9pm on Friday, March 2nd, 2012 and will hang throughout the gallery until March 30, 2012.  The opening event is free and open to the public.

This will be the studios sixth show depicting art from an open call encouraging artists to share how the expressive arts have impacted their health and well being.  Art was juried by Beth Ann Short and Jake Barnett of the 100th Monkey as well as Alice Noyes and Jaime from Street Yoga.  During jury process art was considered for formal aesthetic elements, but also metaphorically, considering the process of each artist in relation to their story submitted with their artist statement.  Art is both 2-d and 3-d with work focused on recovery, family and process.  Coincidentally, in March the National Coalition of Creative Arts Therapies Associations also recognizes Creative Arts Therapies Week, this year March 18-24, 2012.

Spring Restorative Series

The Bodhi Tree Studio, 3430 SE Belmont, #207, Portland, Oregon 97214
Offered by Jenny Siegel

Restorative yoga has been a profound practice for me. Like many of us, my life feels hectic often and I can’t help but feel the collective struggle our planet is experiencing. It has been a gift to discover a simple practice that allows for spacious stillness. The beauty of the practice is that even with 5 minutes to spare, one can benefit. With a longer practice, one can experience a deep healing response by allowing the body’s own inner processes to function properly.

Suggested Donation $5-12. All proceeds benefit Street Yoga

Pratyahara for Recovery and Bliss
Most current recovery protocols deal with trauma and addiction from the outside-in with the goal of being able to “bear” reality.  Yoga works from the inside-out, going to the root causes of habitual actions and reactions where they live in the subtle and causal bodies.  Join us for a look at chemical dependance and physical and emotional triggers as the dysfunctional discharge of built-up prana, therapeutic sound and mantra, and the expansion of the senses as they take us from survival and control to bliss and liberation, the ultimate goal of yoga.
